Christopher E. Pearson, Ph.D is Senior Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children, Program of Genetics & Genome Biology; Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Molecular Genetics, Canada. Dr. Pearson received a Ph.D. from McGill University studying DNA replication, then in 1994 did a post-doctoral fellowship in the Texas Medical Center in Houston working on the mechanism of disease-causing repeat instability in Myotonic Dystrophy, spinocerebellar ataxia, and fragile X mental retardation. In 1998 he was appointed at The Hospital for Sick Children and was cross-appointed to the faculty at the University of Toronto, advancing to Senior Scientist and Associate Professor in 2004. He has been a member of the International Myotonic Dystrophy Consortium since it’s inception in 1999. He serves a number of advisory boards including the National Fragile X Foundation, USA, and has co-organized the International Conference on Unstable Microsatellites & Human Disease for the past four iterations, since 2004. He is Associate Editor for PLoS Genetics. His laboratory studies the mechanisms of disease-causing repeat instability associated with neurological and neuromuscular disease, with the goal of developing effective treatment. He has published over 60 papers and reviews.
